So I decided to aim less and do less, at least for now.
And why all this? Because less is more!
I feel overwhelmed with everything #socialmedia tells me I have to do, and my answer is no. Or at least not, for now. So let's go by parts.
Social Media
I think we've reached a situation where we're posting the same thing everywhere. We create a video or a photo and post it on Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok, etc. Can you tell me if the format or speed is different? But no, this is the illusion, it looks different, but it's the same! And we all know it.
I would go to Twitter to chat or read what others thought about something. I could have an illustrative image of the concept, but the idea was to talk. I would go to Instagram to look at photos and art, I would go to TikTok to watch short, relaxing movies, and on youtube, I would learn and watch movies. And now? Garbage and noise. The same everywhere. I have seen this; this is #repeated over and over again. Etc. Sometimes these #posts even come with the watermark of the first social media where it was posted.
I don't know how good it will be for their #business, but for us #artists, it will definitely be less good if we try to become and be everywhere.
Unless you have a team to do it.
And I don't have a team, or at least not, for now.
The great controversy that illustrates this situation well is #instagram. Instagram chose to prioritize videos. They own the company, and if they made that decision, it's because they have the data and experience to do so. It's their " #art ": they can and should do whatever they want.
The big question is whether we (I) want to do that. My answer, I know: is no. I don't want to dance with my painting in my hands. I think it's funny, but it's not for me. I admire the courage and grace with which my fellow artists do it, but it's not for me. Taking a #picture with #artwork in my hands that's fine. Does this make me lose followers? I don't believe it, at least the followers that interest me.
My niche doesn't want me to dance with the painting in my hands. He wants me to hug a tree, paint on the grass, and observe the universe in a grain of sand.
Is it 400 instead of 4000? Surely! And that was and continues to be my choice.
They want to see me human, with a face. Yea! Do I have some photos featuring an artist at work? Yea! And that's a problem I have to solve (me and my hairdresser). :-)
If I'm going to make videos, I prefer the #YouTube business model, which remains true to itself and its customers, by the way.
I like calm, pause, rewind, and concentration.
Also, after a certain point, YouTube starts paying #creators for their products. Instagram demands more and more without paying anything. We provide all that content for free. Very few of us get paid for it. Think about it!
But let's go back to the beginning.
I'm at starting an #artbusiness, and I`m trying to be and do a lot simultaneously.
And I've decided that I'm going to focus on my art again. Improve techniques and concepts. If I remember to take a picture or film the process, great! If not, that's fine too. But I need to have more quality and quantity of work; for now, that's what I'm going to focus on.
This means that Social Media will accompany my growth process, and I am not the one who will accompany (and provide fully integrated content) their growth process.
I will have to take more quality courses and #training in areas where I feel I don't have enough knowledge. For that, I have to be available to search and find the right people and pay for their meritorious work.
The art products to be purchased will be available virtually (#onlinestore) and in situ (store in the city where I live). I don't know why we started to devalue reality, presence, or touch.
That's all for now.
Oh, and this blog will become my diary, at least for now. Not because I don't have a lot of ideas about what to write about, but because I need to stay focused on one activity at a time, and why not document this process?
I would like to have company on this trip, although I understand that even, for now, a little solitude is also part of the #artisticprocess, especially when we need to find ourselves again.
Ideas, #comments, and divergent ideas are always welcome, this is how we grow. See you next week!
